Providing Whanganui with superior legal services since 1907 Armstrong Barton had its genesis in 1907 when Graham Armstrong and Lance Craig commenced practice under the name of Armstrong & Craig. In 1915 Bob Barton joined the Firm and in 1920, on the departure of Lance Craig, the name Armstrong Barton was adopted. Despite name additions over the years, reflecting new partners, the names Armstrong and Barton have endured. The presence of an Armstrong spanned two generations. In 1935, Graham’s son Colin commenced a lifetime of legal practice in Whanganui, interrupted only by distinguished service abroad during World War II. In 1961, Colin Armstrong was appointed Crown Solicitor at Whanganui, an appointment to which his partner Tony Lathan succeeded him in 1965. Following Tony Latham’s appointment as a District Court Judge in 1980, the Crown warrant was held by partners, Phil Moran and then Andrew Cameron until 1992. In 2008 Lance Rowe was appointed as the Crown Solicitor, making him the 5th Crown Solicitor appointed from the firm. Today’s partners are proud to practise under the name Armstrong Barton. We at Armstrong Barton are proud of our reputation for being available, accessible and approachable.
